Then to speed up my transitions and think about timing in solos, I took up Hotel California (the first part second part bores me)īeen fucking around with the solo from All Along the Watchtower, but just the intro and a few other Jimi riffs. Also a favorite and instantly recognized by any passerby. To get better at bending with vibrato at the top of my bends, I learned that little Bohemian Rhapsody solo.

I had been working on a combined version of the solos from Knockin' on Heaven's Door, but realized I needed to improve my upward bends. Playing it super clean (cleanly articulated with or without gain) gives me the flexibility to slop it up McCreedy-stule, but when people hear raked out chords and my own flavor of vibrato (think "slink"), it gives it a totally unique feel that passerbys comment on (I practice often outside with a battery powered amp) I love that solo and it's my favorite to play.

Learned Waiting on the World to Change and Yellow Ledbetter to get familiar with hand shapes and thumb usage.įrom there, I had a cleaner version of the Yellow Ledbetter solo than McCreedy plays on record or live. I couldn't solo for shit as of last year been playing my own bullshit and riffs for 20 years.įinally committed to learning chords the proper way (lefty self taught before YouTube existed).
